What is a UK customs declaration?
A customs declaration tells HMRC what goods are being imported or exported, who is responsible for them, their value, origin and the customs procedure being used. Jenkar prepares and submits declarations within an agreed service scope.
Can Jenkar handle customs if I have arranged my own transport?
Yes. Jenkar can scope a standalone UK import or export declaration alongside transport arranged by you or another freight provider. Share your route, border location, goods and timing so the team can confirm availability and responsibilities.
What documents do I need for customs clearance?
Typically, you will need a commercial invoice, packing list, relevant EORI details, commodity codes, goods descriptions, values, origin and transport details. Licences, certificates or additional evidence may be needed depending on the goods and procedure. Jenkar confirms the requirements for your movement.
Do I need an EORI number?
Businesses moving goods into or out of Great Britain generally need an EORI number starting with GB. Northern Ireland movements may have different requirements, including an XI EORI where applicable. Tell Jenkar where your business is established and which route you are using.
How much does a customs declaration cost?
Jenkar quotes for the specific declaration and agreed services. The cost depends on the number of commodity lines, the goods, the route, the procedure and any additional document work. Customs duty, import VAT and third-party charges are separate unless expressly included in your quote.
How long does customs clearance take?
Timing depends on complete documents, the route, the customs procedure and any checks required by the authorities. Contact Jenkar before your goods move. The team can confirm the available service and required information; customs release times cannot be guaranteed.
What is the Customs Declaration Service (CDS)?
CDS is HMRC’s Customs Declaration Service, used for UK import and export customs declarations. Jenkar coordinates the declaration data, supporting documents and submission within the agreed scope.
Does using a customs agent remove my responsibilities?
No. The importer or exporter must provide accurate information and agree the representation basis in writing. Responsibilities for licences, product requirements, duty and tax remain part of the agreed scope. Jenkar explains the instructions needed before accepting the work.
